On the 16th October, as part of Mediation Awareness Week, ADR-ODR International held an event to discuss Brexit and meditation techniques.  The event was held at the BPP Law School in Holburn as part of the Department of Dialogue and Pluralism’s inaugural event.  The panel of experts at this event discussed the opportunity to mediate the departure of the UK from the EU and how Brexit mediation could be conducted.

In the discussion, the panel spoke about Brexit and how applying mediation to the negotiation process may help in coming to a decision. The panel also considered how Brexit may affect the roles of mediation professionals, both in the UK and the EU. Does the cultural divide create a problem for the UK when trying to negotiate Brexit, and how can mediation overcome this barrier in the negotiation process.

The panel of experts consisted of  Diane Wallis (Former Vice President of the European Parliament), John Sturrock QC (Barrister and mediator), Iain Christie (Secretary of the Civil Mediation Council) and Jane Gunn (Chair of the Board of Management of The Chartered Institute of Arbitrators).

Below you can find the full stream of the Brexit and Mediation event from the 16th October 2017.

There was also a question and answer session at the end of the presentations. Audience members were asked to give their opinions on mediation and Brexit:
