PJW Supporting University Mediation Courses

Team and students from Manchester

West of England for five days she was able to bring the world of mediation to them in a context which will be familiar and relatable to them.

Throughout the duration of the five-day course at both universities, Pamela and her team which consisted of four support trainers and herself, delivered an extensive and comprehensive view on mediation. The ideas that were discussed and explored was the introduction to ADR and mediation, introducing students to the theory of conflict, ADR Landscapes and the theory of conflict.

Students who attended the five-day course were able to acknowledge and develop their mediation skills, understand what it means to be the neutral negotiator, create value in the ‘deal’, introduction to changes in mediation when it comes to cultural issues and being introduced to online mediation. With this rich learning outcome, students are likely to have gained a great deal from the training course ran by Pam and the team. Each student will need to pass three practical mediation assessments on the fifth day. As well as having to undergo some written coursework.

The journey for Pam to lecture at Manchester and UWE is a positive approach to getting mediation recognised in a learning environment and being carried out in a working environment after the students graduate. It gives a particular advantage to those who will be working in legal business environment, as the course is aimed to understanding mediation in legal and business settings.

The course that is being carried out by the students is part of a programme offered by the university as part of their course and allows them to see into the real world of mediation.

As well as Manchester Metropolitan University and the University of the West of England, where Pam delivered courses, this week ADR-ODR are also carrying out mediation courses at London BPP as part of the venture.

ADR-ODR offer mediation course to universities as part of their training for university students offering.  PJW also carry out mediation in the workplace and this is where Pam and her team gain their wealth of knowledge from.
